Worth the extra money

I did my homework on cots for camping purposes and decided to purchase this cot. For me spending this amount of money is a big deal. I am going on an extended bicycle trip through Florida this winter (2013) and maybe up the east coast in the spring/summer. I needed something that was well made and would fit in my tent. When I received this cot I put it together and started using it every night for the last two weeks. I am 6’5″ and weigh 245lbs and side sleep mainly. One night a went to bed with a sore back and when I woke up the soreness was gone. For me that made my purchase well worth it.

Makes a huge difference!

It’s not as good as being home in bed but it makes for a much more comfortable night outside. Being up off of the ground is so important. I had to camp in a nasty, rocky place for work this summer and the LuxuryLite held me up over some uneven, uncomfortable ground. It also rained to beat the band while I was there and while my buddies got soaked in a tent, I was just fine on the LuxuryLite with a tarp – being off of the ground is fabulous!

A Good alternative to sleeping pads if you need the comfort.

I first found out about this product browsing the Thermarest website. Watched a video and was intrigued by the concept of a lightweight backpacking cot. One of them happened to be at an REI garage sale at a price that was worth the risk so I have it a shot.

Nice one!

This is one of the best things I have purchased for camping/backpacking in the last 20 years. I slept on it for over a dozen nights this past winter and spring and never had any problems setting it up or taking it down…one little hint, when you are putting it together spread your feet out to the poles running down the length of the cot, this maintains the width of the cot and allows you to put the cross poles with the circular feet on pretty easily. I’m really sorry that some of the other reviewers had difficulty setting it up. I’m a pretty big guy (6’1″ and 200 lbs) and this cot allowed me to side sleep. I used a Therm-A-Rest pad for warmth when it was cold (below freezing) and was warmer than I have ever been. Now in the summer I like that it gets me up off the ground and allows air flow underneath to stay cooler. Packs neatly – no problem fitting in the bag. Will be buying several more for the rest of the family.

Comfy but feel like it may sag too much in future

I like the cot a lot, but at 188 lbs, I am barely ½ an inch from the floor under my hips. I slept on it for 2 weeks straight and it didn’t sag any more than that so maybe it will be ok- but I don’t know why they didn’t make the feet just a bit bigger to accommodate for it- I fear it may sag in coming years of use, and it’s a very expensive cot to have that happen.

Works well with a thin air mattress.

This cot really is small and lightweight when packed up. Putting it together is a bit of a chore, but once you have done it a few times it takes only a few minutes. Just be very careful to keep track of all the parts.
