USAF issued me a Source hydration pack during training and at first I thought it was the result of some kind of shady DoD contract or something since I’d never heard of Source. After a few years of hard use in various climates, I came to appreciate the quality. Maintenance was minimal, taste was excellence, and durability was far beyond other similar products. The parts that finally broke were the string attached to filling cap (which is corrected by this new design), and the bite valve (also different on this one). To be fair, both wore out from overuse (sometimes mild abuse).

Like the reservoir but not the valve

I have tried many different hydration reservoirs over the past years and Source are simply the most reliable in terms of leak-proof and easy to clean. However, the new style valve is just as bad as the previous one and I will be replacing it soon. It is huge and it leaked from day 1. Since I use this while bicycle commuting, any leakage drips from my shoulder right onto my right leg. Pretty annoying.

great bag hose and valve. Doesnt hang/suspend well in any of my 5 packs though

I’ve used this for a while now and feel comfortable reviewing it. The valve and bag are great, no issues with that at all. I love how easy it is to clean it, route the tube through my packs and get good water flow out of the valve and tube. It also seems pretty durable, ive had to carry my dog out in my pack with this and it survived unscratched even though my pup was flailing around the whole time. My one issue with it that it doesnt hang/suspend in a good way in any of my packs. The convinient looking hanging point is on the center of the green plastic bar, but if you hang it by this the motion of the pack opens it up as you walk. It was a stupid, wet and cold mistake to make. Hanging it from the white plastic thing below the green bar on top sort of works, but all three of my packs pull up on it and Im worried its going to break it after a while. If im missing something about how to hang this, please comment and let me know!

I purchased 2 for my son and myself. We used it for backpacking with Boy Scouts in New Mexico (12 days). Easy to use and clean. The big mouth makes it easy to fill with ice cubes (when you have them at home) and makes for easy cleaning and drying. The detachable hose made it super easy to fill the bladder without weaving the hose in and out of where it was attached to my backpack. Other scouts had bladders but had to fish the hose in and out to fill (inconvenient). The mouthpiece did not leak and worked perfectly (the mouthpiece cover was nice too – kept dirt off of it whenever I lay down my backpack). I would buy it again and recommend it to others.

Bought 3 Hydration Bladder at the same time and THIS ONE WORKS THE BEST.

WATER THAT TASTES LIKE WATER! That’s what I’ve been looking for, and this is the one. Very happy! I only wish I’d discovered it before spending a ton of money on other big name bags that make the water taste as bad as it smells.

I bought this for a sling pack I use daily. I was concerned about fitment, but it works perfectly! I was also concerned about the plastic sliding mechanism for sealing the opening of the bag, but it does not leak one bit! The nozzle works great. The tether that holds the cap on the nozzle is rather short, so if you don’t maneuver it just right you won’t get it off, which can be rather annoying. That being said, it therefore stays on securely and prevents dirt and such from getting into the nozzle, so I have left it on. Very pleased with the product.

Exactly what I wanted

Exactly as expected, very happy with it so far. I had been using a Platypus for about 10 yrs which has done me a great job even though the mouth piece seemed to always leak just a little. Never was an issue for me. It got stolen with my back pack when my vehicle was stolen. I purchased this one based on other reviews as well as the tube connection faces up instead of to the side, I felt like this might be an issue in the future as the tube travels up might cause a constant side tugging which might cause it to break off, also I liked the bight valve has a cover. My old one had a zip lock style closure at the top which was a little tough to squeeze together but very secure. This is much easier to close and still opens the entire top for filling and very secure. My favorite feature is the tube removes by a quick connect from the bag which is so convent to pop it off and fill with out having to re-run the tubing every time. After removing the tube the connection at the bottom of the bag remains sealed so fluid doesn’t run out with the tube removed. This may have been obvious to others but I was quit pleased with this feature. Water flow through the bite valve is a little less but sufficient and for now the bite valve doesn’t leak.

Easy to fill and clean bladder with a great bite valve.

I ordered this water bladder for my LL Bean hiking pack and it was just slightly too tall to fit. That was extremely discappointing as the bladder itself seemed to be very high quality. Before I realized it didn’t fit I filled it with water and tried the bite valve out. This is one of the nicer bite valve systems I have used. It twists open and closed to keep water from spilling out and has a dust cover to keep the mouthpiece clean, which is a nice addition most bladders do not use.
