This pack is loaded with features found on packs costing twice as much ,carries like a dream and swallows gear like a black hole.I only regret that I didn’t’ buy the apex 100; 20 liters more for $10 more.
What a Pack

The pack is absolutely feature rich, constructed well, and sufficient capacity. Padded shoulder, waist harness with adequate ventilation. The product is worth its value.
Good Pack Reasonable Price

I scoured the internet looking at backpacks. I checked local stores for backpacks and put a lot of time into research. There was little about this pack. I decided to try it and see it for myself. First off the pack was bought to replace a coleman external frame pack that was about 20 years old. My main concern was that I didnt know how much room I would need for my gear since I was changing over to an internal frame pack. Im glad I got this pack. It holds all my gear for a 3 day hike and there is leftover room for food and additional water (more than enough for a week long adventure). Presently I have a slumber jack bag, thermarest trail pro lg mat, alps 1.5 man tent, fleece, thermals, shell, cookware, some extra clothes, and 1.5 gallons of water in the pack. There is also all of the misc stuff you would expect too like fire and hygene kits. The pack is not extended (there is basically a “standard” drawstring on the top and an “extended” drawstring) see website it will provide 2 capacities, that is what they are referring to.

Excellent quality, as I expect from Mountainsmith, and a good layout that gives you room to separate things that could be needed quickly. The mesh bottle pockets are large enough to fit my 40 oz Klean Kanteen bottles, the hydration sleeve fits a 100 oz bladder with a filter in an insulated sleeve, the sleeping bag compartment easily holds a SnugPak Antarctica even without cinching down the compression straps, the side pockets hold all my survival gear with room to spare, the straps on the bottom leave enough room to put a pad through them, and the main compartment is like a cave that never seems to fill up. Even with the minor gripes I have (listed below) this is definitely the best of the extended use packs I’ve owned. Comfortable to wear, good straps that take the weight well, spacious with a usable division instead of one cavernous pit that everything is dumped in, and the daisy chain is something I’ve come to love.
Great All Around Pack
I bought this pack to replace a smaller 40L pack I’d been overstuffing for years. I wanted something that was going to be able to handle any amount of gear I wanted/needed to carry. The adjustability of this pack is welcomed. I’ve carried 50+ lbs in this without a problem at all, and the way the pack sits on my shoulders/hips makes it feel lighter than it really is. I’ve had to trek through some gnarly brush with this pack, and even though I can hear branches scratching at the material, it still looks brand new – no rips! I love the fact that the pockets are deep enough for a 32 oz Nalgene to fit completely inside of them. Another thing I really like are the amount of pockets, and the depth of each of them. You can really organize everything into their own pockets, which is never a con. The pass-through in the middle pocket is also a great idea. With a bag this large, it’s a nice feature to have the option to pull out gear from either the top, bottom, or middle of the bag. Last but certainly not least… the price of this bag practically makes it a steal. I would highly recommend this bag!
Best gear I have period
This pack is simply Amazing, I have tried several packs from many manufacturers and this one is definitely the best, it took me about 6 months to finally pull the trigger on this pack but i am sure glad I did, I am going this weekend on a 24 mile 2 day hike so I will put it through the tests. I am sure i will be pleased this pack rides very nicely even loaded to the gills it fits snug and the suspension was amazing, very easy to adjust and comfortable. It is huge to i still have some room left which is good cause you never know what you may need
Great quality, extremely sturdy and well-built
Great quality, extremely sturdy and well-built. still looking like new after 3 trips of 2months and 2 weeks each. only problem is that the main compartment is only accessible through the top and from a small-ish opening in the front. makes it hard to reach for clothes without needing to take everything out and repack each time.
Does everything we expected and more!

So many awesome features. Very flexible in adjusting height and comfort. so many useful pockets and pouches. The fact that the top comes off and doubles as a side bag for a ‘day hike’ is awesome! Water hydration pouch, separate sleeping bag compartment that detaches, to make extra room in the larger part of the bag…Check it out!!
Love this backpack
Love this backpack! Has lots of storage to fit everything you need, is quite comfortable with great back support and just very well made. Would highly recommend for the average hiker/camper.
